bleh, so hard trying to find build time with the work schedule i am pulling right now.

imma try to do a straight forward ( for me ) build.

gonna use as many box stock parts as i can with the exception of the tires/rims and some engine parts

maybe this will keep me a bit more on track so i might finish one this year

no opening doors, no opening trunk, no cage or tube suspension....

lets see what happens

starting with 3 basic pics today

the kit

the colors i decided to pull out

i knocked through the basic smoothing and cleaning mold lines and sanded the body with 2000 grit before i hit it with primer

once that dries i will check for any imperfections and touch them up, then reprime , resand and get ready for color

cya in a few days (with luck) Shocked

Just stock, is there really such a thing? lol, like the color combo, I think I have this kit, or I could be dreaming, looks pretty smooth so far, good start..

hardest part i am finding is putting the knives and saws away and trying to keep myself to minimal additions..... wow this is rough lol

ok it is now gonna be a 3 color scheme....yeah yeah lol

adding in some of this

did a final sand and prime, color time!!!!
mother of pearl for the inlay

once that dried i used some parafilm m to mask it off and protect it from other coats of paint

cut it

stretch it out and put it in place

only thing i dont like about the parafilm is that it is clear and hard to see the edges. regardless , i used a sharp blade to trim it down to the inlay size. then i layed down the lower body color.

then i grabbed something else similar to the parafilm to mask the 1st color

layed it down along the trim line and followed where i want the color change to be

last color blasted on

once it dried to the touch, both masks came off

now that is gonna dry for a few days before i tackle the chrome and then clear it.

cya when i can

thanks bud

onto the chassis, like i said, nothing extravagant going on in this build

i primed it when i did the body, now i just want to add contrasting colors then i will fog the gold/yellow along the edges to give it the factory sprayed look

out comes the masking tape so i can do the frame

used a toothpick to push down the edges, and a hobby blade to trim the excess to prep it for paint

think a steel frame will work for now

2 light coats

off comes the mask

now that can dry and i will decide how i want to detail it up a bit later

cya in a few

Masking is so tedious, I have such a hard time doing it.

This looks good, the steel works well.

I found that I can get a really good grunge metal look from the gun metal paint at walmart, if I paint over flat black, but, it looks much closer to the steel you would see if you ground of the paint when I put it over a gloss black.

yeah i have about 6 different brands of steel, but i really like the ak interactive stuff, goes on smooth and easy clean up

I have to say, though, you did do a great job taping it off. I may have to try this later. When do you pull the tape off? That has always been an issue for me, seems to grab and pull.

i have no patience lol. i pull tape on everything as soon as i am done spraying. i find when i wait for the paint to dry before peeling it tends to rip the edges of the paint and not give a clean line

Thanks, that seems like great advise. I may be trying it really soon.

ok bit of work got in the way a but i am back at the bench again

also i guess i should introduce you to the newest member of the house....

Sampson, he was 7 weeks at this pic, cane corso mastiff..goes with the rest of the loony bunch of fur kids we have

on now onto the building..

i wanted a bit of contrast with the gas tank so i masked that off for paint.

gonna use dark aluminum on it so its a bit different shade than the frame

quick shot through the airbrush

i also used a thin wash of black oil paint thinned with mineral spirits across the whole chassis underside to bring out detail

i am not normally a fan of decals for graphics but i found a set in a 60 imp that i think fit this build perfectly.

then followed it up with 3 coats of 2 part urethane clear

now that can sit for a few days, i will polish out anywhere that needs it and then add bare metal foil

now for the engine....

409 with some options..

i think this one will get a dual carb setup with a modified manifold and pair of holleys

off to paint

Looking great, Wayne! Although, the highlight is Samson. (LOL)

We had a dog with that name, he was the best dog you could ever have. We haven't been able to bring ourselves to get another since.

Colors are looking great, although, if I were to use my sons Legos like you do, making a mold holder out of it, he would just kill me.

got the legos from the thrift store for about 3 bucks, no way i would pay retail for them now. kinda scary since i remember having about a 10lb box of them when i was a kid...

would be worth a fortune now lol

Sampson is a good pup so far, put on 10 lbs in the last 3 weeks and he is expected to do more than that in the next 3, gonna have to buy him a saddle by the time he is 1 lol
