I also got the hood masked off and re-sprayed with it's Candy Apple Green!

And finally, I got the firewall prepped and painted, and started the process to apply some Alclad to the bumpers...they had lots of flash along the edges, so they had to be de-chromed.

Me too Wayne, but the prep work to make it look good is a real pain sometimes!

OK, we have a near 100% bed! I've still got to find a way to fix the broken section on the lower edge of the driver's side at the tailgate, that's gonna be a bear. But the rest is done, enjoy the pictures!

234 Re: 1965 Chevy Pickup & Hemi Hydro combo on Tue May 12, 2015 9:52 pm

And to wrap it up for tonight, some more prep work on the bumpers. the black was polished up, two more coats should cover the bare spots and then they'll be ready for some Alclad!

And I tried something different for the windshield washer bottle. This was a clear part, and they always look bad to me when you paint the inside...the walls are just too thick and it looks weird no matter what. So I hit it with some 1500 grit sandpaper to give it a fine texture, and shot it with white primer. It looks better, now it kind of looks like the semi-smooth translucent plastic the bottles are made from..at least to me!

Looking real good. I like the bed, the cover is cool.

The washer bottle looks good, great attention to details.

I may try it myself, I've got a second one of this kit, since it sacrificed it's hood and bed for this one....

I got a bit done yesterday....

Firewall wiring detailed...

Same for the fenderwell wiring...

Grille glued in place....

And the interior and windows place...we're almost done!

The windshield was a real pain to get in place and glued down, but I finally got it!

The back window went in perfectly, and is almost distortion free!

I made up a license plate holder per Sam's over on Scale Avenue's excellent suggestion....

And did a quick mock-up of the cab and bed just to see how it all looks...once again, I got lucky! The paint separation on the cab lines up perfectly with the bed cover...I was blown away when I saw how well it came out, and it was definitely not planned, it just happened!

The bed had popped up a bit at the front edge when I snapped this picture, vut when it's pushed down into it's proper position, the silver lines up perfectly!

lookin great bud
you would think that after all these years, they would come up with a different way to do the glass lol

Thanks Wayne, someday they might actually find a way to make model glass distortion free, but I wouldn't hold your breath! Shocked

It's really close to being completed right now, the last part is doing the Alclad on the bumpers. I've got them sitting here in the house waiting to be polished up a bit, hopefully I can spray the Alclad tomorrow if the polishing goes well!

The windshield is in place...

The hood is also all polished up and looking good!

The kit-supplied license plate was used, but I had to break my pretty little bracket and glue the plate to the side of the bed. The bracket I made would have had a serious issue with the back bumper!

This pic is just for fun, I love this color!

And the gas cap is in place!

The bed and cab have been glued to the chassis, and the bed cover was placed on it's hinge...

And one of the mirrors has been pinned and glued into place...adding the tiny piece of wire to theses was a real pain, there's not a whole lot to work with! They were de-chromed and painted with some Metalizer...

And finally, the turn-signal decals were added to the hood!

And these two pics are of the bed, hard to believe this was the same messed up piece of plastic I pulled out of that box!

Wayne, it's got it's good points, and some really bad ones too. The chassis, suspension, engine and interior are all really nicely done. the engine isn't quite as good as the 327 in the '64 Impala Revell put out a few years back, but it's a damn good looking 283, so we have two candidates for a great looking SBC at least! The five-spoke rims and tires in the kit are gorgeous, but the stock set of rims is just as nice! The dash is beautifully done, the door panels and seat look great, and it all goes together beautifully. But the hood and bed...those are gonna kick your butt, trust me! Expect to take a lot of time on the hood, and the only way to make that bed look good is to hack the fenders and top rails off and rework the box completely. It doesn't have to have a wood floor (There's a great looking decal in the box for that), but the sides need to be smoothed out, and the top rail replaced somehow.

OK, it's pretty much done, just the lower radiator hose to install, and it'll be finished. The Alclad on the bumpers didn't come out as shiny as I'd like, but it looks good with the Candy Silver upper section, so I'll take it. Once the lower hose gets glued in place, I'll give the truck and boat a good clean-up and snap some outside pics for to show it off.

I had to remove the license plate and glue it back on a bit higher, since it still hit the bumper, that's why the piece of styrene is there, gotta keep it straight while the glue dries!

Here she is all finished and I even got some great sunlight for the pics! Thanks to everyone who followed along, and a huge thanks to Sam over on Scale Avenue for the Hemi Hydro kit!

I'm gonna add some round tail lights and a license plate to the trailer...it just looks wrong without 'em!
