1/12 Scale Foose Camaro - Kitbash
Sun Jan 25, 2015 2:26 pm
you all know i could only sit so long before opening the 1/12 scale camaro i got for the Bday
i already know its going to be atleast a year build but this way i will keep track of it all as i go like usual
i am gonna have quite a bit of tweaking to do with this one so i will start on the easy bit, the body
now there are some mold lines and ejection pin marks but i am taking a different approach here.
i am going to see if i can replicate the scripts in resin , the z28, the camaro and even the side marker lights
i wont shave the scripts until i am successful in recreating them
now....to build them up, i have to tear it down first
guess what's getting opened?
using the same technique as with the 1/24 scale builds, lightly dragging a number 11 hobby knife blade backwards in the panel line, removing small amounts of plastic with each pass
i will say, this takes longer on the larger scale but it is well worth the effort
used the same technique above the read valance panel to separate it from the trunk
one panel done
different angle
now i am gonna open the gill vents on the side, i start by using a small drill bit in end of the vents
holes drilled
then using the same scribing method, i open them up
last one to come off this evening is the drivers door, i will be doing the other door as well, fingers are giving up on me after 90 minutes of scribing this evening lol
cya when i can

I've got one of the original issues of this kit, Model Car Garage makes a great PE set for it too! The only thing is, they left the 302 scripts off of it...kind of hard to do a Z/28 without the 302 back in 1969! I had Keith Marks make me up some 302 decals to use on it though, I just haven't built it because I have nowhere to display it!
So since you're opening everything up, what's the plan for the final build? Factory Stock, or something a bit wilder?

Nice build.
What makes this kit Foose? Just the wheels?
I like how you open everything up.
The rear vents, if I remember correctly, were mostly show, but, could be made functional. In newer Z/28's, they were functional and quite useful.
A couple of years ago, their functionality was made apparent when one of the car magazines pitted them up against the new mustang and they took 1st because of the ability to cool their brakes via the vents where the mustang couldn't, on the circle track.

Will definitely be something wilder lol.
I am almost done with a master for a blown big block and plan to master a set of pro street tires for it as well.
Rear vents were only cosmetic on the original but I am thinking about setting some colored led lighting in there for a bit of a custom effect
